Hey everyone I got the Limited Edition Red Wii for Xmas. I am looking into modding it and was wondering what everyone thinks is the best route to go? I am kinda thinking I am going to stick with a hard mod but that's not definite. Also wondering if there is anyone that still does hardware mods? I was told the newer wii's have been modified so they wont read copied dvds everything has to be from an SD or External HD anyways,is this true?

Thanks

Jake

yes. new wii's have drives that are unable to read copied discs.

so softmodding is the choice. besides, you have much more benefit from a usb loader. faster loading, no need to switch discs, all stored in one place.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Well I am thinking I would still like the hard mod,my problem is the only thing I can see capable of reading from an external usb hard drive would be the wode jukebox is that correct. Any of the other hard mods and I am looking at using SD cards?

no. and IMO, the wode isn't worth it. you lose the disc drive completely, and you have to use the firmware on it.

the only downfall of usb loaders is no gamecube backups like the wode. but even the wode doesn't have a fully working gamecube loader.

read, read, and read more before you start modding. if you try to mod right away with no experience, you will mess up.

and yes, softmodding allows you to rip your store bought games to a external drive. see my sig for my specs.

don't know. but i would just make it easier on yourself and use an original disc. always worked for me.

If you have a modchip installed (and have 1 of the older DVD that can read backups) and you want to softmod then yes you can use a backup copy of the game.

If you don't have a modchip then you have to use a retail disc.
