Came on here and noticed all the threads about Black Wii's.
I bought mine around a year ago and didn't see anything about this. How can I tell if I have to hack my Wii in a different way?

There is only two ways to hack a Wii,any color. 1. Modchip 2. Softmod
With the Black Wii's,if my info is correct, losses the ability to play Gamecube games. Also depending,it wont play backup's off dvd-r/dvd+r.
This is why i recently bought a white Wii,so i can play my GC games i had laying around.
I used Letterbomb to softmod my Wii,which i recommend. Check out this Youtube video,it will explain everything you need to do. Hope this helps.

Google modmii, a one stop guide and downloading program. Run the wizard, answer the questions, follow the guide.
A two year old wii can play gamecube games, it is the newly released holiday version that has lost the facility

Not according to Nintendo.. ALL Black Wii's, can not play Gamecube games.. I wasn't saying White two year old Wii's.

Further info
Nintendo will release a Holiday Wii bundle this October 23. Nintendo is pulling a Sony here, removing backwards compatibility for Gamecube games.
Fortunately you can still have a happy holiday and order the bundles that have the older version of the Wii ? in both white or black ?that supports Gamecube games. Those bundles ? which come with a copy of Mario Kart Wii and the steering wheel accessory ? are sold for $160 (USD), just $10 more than the stripped-down Holiday Bundle, but if you have several Gamecube games then I?m pretty sure this is still a no-brainer.
It is the new wii launched this year that removed the gamecube connectors and hence the gamecube compatibility. Older black Wii's have these connectors and hence have the capability of playing original gamecube discs.

now that i've finally scored me a wii(i would never pay money for it but wouldn't mind it free) they took out the backward compatibility from the new wii bundles. f zero gx, wind waker, paper mario.. GG

hmmmmmm tried running stuff off a hdd? with latest cIOS? cant argue with you as mines about 5year old but all works when i upgarade the cIOS. and your name ps3 ps3 aint nothing to write home about hacked, latest game i got working was bf3 but thats the only new one, at least you can get free wii games that work, my xbox on the other hand....... just ordered the x360key so sweet so sexy merry christmas:)
