One theory is that the newer games require IOS that have not yet been installed yet on your console, and since the IOS are not there it is causing an error in Gamma Launcher. Usually the IOS would be installed in the system update. Do not update the console, but instead try launching your games from GeckoOS: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Gecko_OS
GeckoOS launches games and bypasses the system update, it should work in this case. If it doesn't, it could be for one of these reasons:
-You could be using the wrong kind of DVDs (They must be DVD-Rs and not DVD+Rs)
-You could be burning the game too fast, resulting in a low quality disc. Remember that when you burn the game, 4x-8x is the ideal speed.
Oh, I wasn't saying that he was using the wrong kind of DVDs, just that it might be something causing the problem he's experiencing. I don't know the full details of his setup, so I can only give the most probable diagnoses. Is that what you meant?

It was more directed at They must be DVD-Rs and not DVD+Rs
Because over the years i have always seen tons of people saying you HAVE to use -R for games for the xbox, ps2, etc. and i have always used verbatim +R's and have never had a problem with any system, any version playing them.

You can use DVD+Rs, however I believe it requires some extra software to allow for compatibility--This is usually why softmod guides state that they must be used, some people may find it difficult to install this software & I think DVD+Rs also wear down the laser/lens.
But anyway, yes as Larry said, it's most likely a backup issue or issue with the DVD media.
If you use DVD+R media you might want to booktype it to DVD-ROM. Most of your burning software will let you booktype DVD+R media. But this more then likely is an ISO issue or cheap media.
The newer drive issue that noahtuck brought up shouldn't be an issue since older backups can be played.
I would also recommend upgrading and installing any missing IOS's that games use to latest versions. You can do this manually.
