USB HDD Idling during Homebrew Apps/Emu's..

I have 2 Western Digital My Book HDD's on a 4.2U
One is 500G and the other is 250.
The problem I've been having lately is during any emulating, especially on WiiSX and N64. (besides Usb Loader that works fine) It seems to go into idle (or stand-by mode) when using Emulators after about 10 minutes, and then it goes to that "an error has occured" screen.
Is there any way to fixing my idling handling on my HDD's? It seems to be harming my 250G because lately it's struggling to boot up once it's turned on. I have never had this happen before.
Am I missing certain IOS's? Should I install all of these I have listed? I haven't installed any of these yet.I am still using 223-nload and 249 to load my USB Loader Games.

it's the drive itself. that's why i prefer to use custom built drives instead of prebuilts.

look to see if there's any program to turn off sleep on the mybook.

There are no options to tweaking the sleep mode really on any WD HDD. What would you suggest when it comes to customs?
