Ok so i recently softmodded my wii console and have used an external hard drive to copy my games. I first formatted the drive to FAT32 but it wouldn't let me rip my games so after snooping around in gx usb loader (or maybe one of the other loaders not sure where i found it) there was an option to format my hdd to wbfs. So i did that then everything worked i was able to rip my games to the external hard drive. However i was trying to connect the external drive to my PC to transfer files back and forth but my computer wont let me open the drive... It recognizes that its there, but says i would need to format it before using it which would delete everything. Anyone know a way i can access the harddrive through my PC and see the files inside of it without wiping everything? all help would be appreciated! i also looked around the forum and couldn't find anything adressing this specific problem. so im sorry if there is already a thread answering this. If so please point me in the right direction. Thank you!

Don't worry about the message telling you to format it.
It does that because the HDD is as a WBFS format.
The computer will still recognise the HDD.
All you need to do is install the program called WBFS Manager and open your HDD through that. You will be able to see all the games you have in the HDD and also be able to copy any games into the HDD or extract any games from the HDD into your Desktop.

Here is a link to the program.

Yes. There is an option in the Menu of the program to tranfer all games to the new HDD or just select the one's you want.

But just remember 2 things....

1. If you copy all the games (depending how many you have) be ready to wait for a very very longgggggggg time for the games to copy to a new HDD. It could be as much as 14 hrs.
2. Sometimes some games will get corrupted when being copied, so before you go and erase the old HDD check all the games on you new HDD to see tha they are all OK and in working order.

Last time I copied my games from one HDD 2 a New Bigger one 2 of the games got corrupted. So had to re-copy them again and problem solved.

At this moment you cannot lauch gamecube games from a HDD. Only way you can do it is via a DVD.
There are programs that you can shrink GC games and put them on a DVD. I have been able to put at leat 4 GC Games on a DVD. But it's trial and error. Some games don't like it being shrinked.

But to answer your question. GC games through HDD NO. From DVD YES.

oh ok cause yeah i have been going the dvd route and i do have the software just wasn't sure why it wouldn't launch. i need to invest in a GC memory card though. i wish they would let you have GC saves to the HDD or at least to SD card. guess the Wii just didnt get around to making that possible. but thanks again! i really appreciate your help!

You cannot run GC games from a HDD, however you can from an SD card and with most games you can put the saves on an SD card as well - look into Dos Mios Lite!

For the best compatibility however you need a disc in the drive (any disc - it can be a wii disc) and a GC memory card, not all games will save to the SD.

Buy a fast SD card to stop stuttering during game play.
