I don't know or have not heard about the wiikey and Wii Firmware 4.4 as the wiikey is an old modchip but upto firmware 4.2 the wiikey works fine.
Plus most people these days (including me) have softmoded their wii and do not use modchips anymore ^ ^

Well I thought I had read about 4.4 wii shop update and even saw a video about it on youtube but maybe the person was meaning to type in the 4.2 update, and as far as softmodding goes I know all about it but just do not really care to mess with all of that because I already have a jtagged 360 and a ps3 on cfw as well so I really have more than I need with homebrew and backup games. Thank you for enlightening me on the information as now I know it is safe to update. Oh and by the way they just came out with a new update for the wiikey original chip so it is still being supported.
