Burning a video to CD-R

I am trying to figure out how to put videos I have downloaded onto cd-r. I used to do it a few years ago but have forgotten. I downloaded Nero and have Blaze Media converter. I converted the video to mpeg1 and tried to burn with nero. The program said there was an error and that the file would not fit on 1 disc. In the past i have put 21/2 hour movies on 1 cd-r. What am I doing wrong?? Please Help.
