on certain dvd players my burnt dvds have been skipping..
i currently have a playstation 3 in the bedroom which plays all my dvds perfectly no matter what but in my family room i have an average about 3 year old lg dvd player which skips usually about 25mins into every dvd, mainly in faster scene's. Ive tried other spare dvd players that were lying around the house all around 3-5 years old and they also skip.
I use verbatim blank media, and use dvd flick to turn avi's into iso then burnt with nero 8. Ive tried all different speeds but still the same outcome.
Computer is about 3-4 years old, not to sure make n model etc. But is very reliable, and isnt really lacking in speed or anything like that. I dont think its the burner as the dvds come out perfect on playstation3 and newer dvd players.
Possibly a way to configure nero or dvd flick to fix this problem?
There are many reasons as to why this would happen:
1.Burning speeds: rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8x disk burn at 4x speed.
2.Read the manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks. It SHOULD that's why you should read the manual.
4.Make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that would make it hard for the player to read the disk.
5.Use good quality media (rule of thumb is to buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch.
Remember that freezing, pixelations, skipping are due to poor media and this can be remedied by using better media! here is a media guide for you: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
6.Don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk which could make the disk unreadable as you get closer to the outer layer, but when using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Burn no closer than about 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, you'll be ok.
If you follow these little tips, you should have better success!
umm ill just reply to ur comment in point form as well so i dont miss anything..
1. Yeah i tried multiple speeds many times, especially low speeds. From 8x to as low as 1x and ofcourse high speeds.
2. I did read the 2 of the players manuals and they were able to read +/- R disks.
3. Do u think booktyping the disks will make a major improvement as thats what im looking for. If its only going to stop some of the skipping i dont want to go to the trouble for every single movie.
4. All disks are brand new
5. Always using top quality verbatim bought from a major outlet, so they cant be fakes.
6. As far as the 4400mb guide line, thats the default setting on dvd flick as it converts to iso(thought that might have been the problem as well)
