I want to add subs to a foreign film that I downloaded. The film is in Chinese. It came with spanish subs, but I want the subs in english. So to begin with, I moved the spanish .srt file out of the folder. Several months ago I created subs for a Russian film that didn't have any subs or .srt files, but I can't quite remember how I did it. I've been using ConvertXtodvd all along, so I know that app was part of it, as it hard codes the subs to the film. I vaguely remember using another program to generate an .srt file, but I can't for the life of me remember exactly how I did it. I do remember that I didn't have to manually type anything as I've seen mentioned on other threads. I've tried usin' all the apps here that people have mentioned, but nothings working. I've been workin' with "Subtitle Workshop" & "Subtitle creator", "DivXLand", "Virtualsubsync", "Virtual Dub", etc... Do I have to capture the audio portion of the film in order to create an .srt? Do I have to convert the .avi (the original format of the film) to DVD- VTS files before I create the .srt file? To reiterate... I don't want to convert anything. I simply would like to know (in laymens terms & possibly w/ images) how to create a raw .srt file. I know once I get that file I can load it into ConvertXtodvd & hard code the subs. Thanks!
You can open your Spanish .srt file in NotePad and see that the format is simply a line number follwed by the start/stop time and the line of dialog, thus:
1
00:00:02,508 --> 00:00:05,625
Stitch-up. It was a stitch-up.
2
00:00:06,708 --> 00:00:10,098
They filmed hours of material
3
00:00:10,268 --> 00:00:14,705
and most of it is a good bloke
doing a good job of work,
4
00:00:14,868 --> 00:00:21,307
and the one time I accidentally headbutt
an interviewee makes it to the programme,

Right... but is there any way to convert it into english? I know there must be some way to create an .srt file. If someone could explain the process & exactly how to do it, that'd be great!
The film is originally in Chinese... mandarin I believe. I want the subtitles to be in english. I know this is possible, because I've done it before. I think I didn't fully understand what I was doin' when I did it before, which is why I don't remember it or have any notes on it. I usually keep notes on these sort of things. Again... if I'm missin' something simple please let me know. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
I have make an subtitle program where it is possible to use translation programmes (Google)
If you want it, E-mail me than I sent it to you.
