First off, I love this site for the news & info posted here. Time & again, when I have problems with my media collection, this is where I find the answers.
I have a decent collection of movies on DVD and Blu Ray. I've ripped them all with Handbrake into mp4 files, and the ones that need subtitles have those as srt files. They are stored in individual folders of the style <movie name> <year>, with associated fanart in subfolders.
I also have a tv card connected to a digital antenna.
(Obligatory CMA: I dont download videos online, and I dont rip movies I rent or borrow from friends. This collection is strictly the ones I own.)
I love Windows Media Center + OpenMediaLibrary, but I cannot for the life of me get it to play subtitle files (yes, Ive tried FFDShow, as well as Media Remote, and they dont work either).
XBMC is also excellent, but it doesnt work as a DVR.
Ive tried using Xvid4PSP to convert the movies & burn the subtitles, but on letterboxed movies (I remove the black bars), the subtitles also get cropped. The interface seems extremely poor on this one.
So, heres what I'd like: a collection manager that can also function as a DVR, and recognizes subtitle files. Ideally, it will also support using my IR remote, but thats easy to hack in if everything else works (I can configure the remote to send keypresses which are recognized by whatever program I use).
