removing notepad icon on subtitles ????

hi all - while trying to work with the different subtitle tools (BIG EMPHASIS ON THE WORD TRYING) i swear subtitles have to be the one thing that give the most trouble - & i never get anywhere with them!
anyways - after installing & uninstalling vobsub now im stuck with a notepad icon on my .idx files. it also causes that the whole name & extension not show on them.
before - i could name them 123.eng.idx now the extension (.idx) doesnt show. like you would only know if its an .idx file if 1. you already knew or 2. if you right clicked> selected properties and looked there.
anyays ive tried going in regedit and deleting notepad from the open with under the file extensions and ive also tried to unassociate the files using this method :

P.S.
also, just in case, while in the registry - there was no "user's Choice" folder to delete. i checked.
any ideas?
