subtitles won't play on dvd player

I have downloaded Farscape and it's subtitiles.
When the avi and .srt files are on the same disc (with he exact same name) the subtitles will be visable, when the disc is played.
However, I am having a problem with 2 of them.
Farscape 3x18 and 3x19 do not show the subtitles.
They show up on the computer, but not on my dvd players.
I have several dvd players that will play avi's, but for some reason, not these two.
I have renamed the files, but nothing helps.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how I could fix it?

Mux them into the AVI using AviAddXSubs.
They will only display on a standalone and are turned on/off using the remote.
