Hi!

I'd like to learn about preferred ways of timing subs. Is an AVI with subtitle workshop the most reliable method?

Thanks!

If it's a straightforward case of the subs being the same amount of async to the video - then SW is straightforward.
Load the movie then the subs.
Play and pause the video at the point where the subs are out of sync.
Select, highlight that sub and subsequent subs then reset the time.
All highlighted subs will re-time themselves.
Save the new subs.
