Forgot passcode and ipod does not restore

So, I don't know what my passcode is and when I try to restore it I need the passcode because it needs a software update. I have tried hacking the filmware but I always get assorted error codes. I have tried using multiple USB's and I have searched everywhere for an answer.I really need step by step easy instructions. Also, please do not give me the obvious answer "just restore your ipod" like most people do because that just shows that you didn't read my problem. Thank you so much!
