OK, I'm on the verge of getting a new iPod touch (8GB 3rd Gen). One of the first things that I will be doing when I get it is looking at jail breaking it, as all of my friends recommended I do.

What exactly are the consequences of jail breaking an iPod (not as in it voids the warranty, rather what does a jail broken iPod enable me access to compared with a normal one). Please be specific, as I am very new to the whole iPod scene.
