Please help i have a ipod touch quick question.

ok i got two broken ipod touches one just needed a digitizer and the other does nothing well i was charging the good one and the battery doesnt take a charge it works but hours go by and it doesnt increase the charge so i took the battery from the other touch and switched out both the screen and battery and i plug it in and the screen shows a white background with the ipod logo then shuts off then repeats. my question is if it is just doing this because i put a different screen and battery in it? so do i have to plug it to my computer and let it register the battery and screen? i hope some one can help thank you for your time.
