Just found occasionally that Chronos has a new 2.5" MP2200 which is capable to play mkv files. It seems to be suitable for 2.5" internal HDD.
Strange is that Google seems totally not to be aware of this unit.

http://www.chronos.com.tw/Product/D/MP2200/MP2200.htm

I thinks that mkv capable hdd Media players are still very rare.
Any more known facts about this device or are there some other popular mkv products?

Hi have you looked at the tivx range of HDD media players. Thay can be a little price but thay are extreamly good at what thay do iv had the m-4100sh for about a year. It will run just about anything i can chuck at it have a look there is quite a range.

http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/products/HDM6500.aspx

thay can be purchased from the site below

http://www.pixmania.co.uk

the players can take up to a 2TB 3.5HDD and will run all the fallowing formats with ease

MKV, AVI, VOB
ASF, WMV
MPEG1/2/4 Elementary (M1V, M2V, M4V)
MPEG1/2 PS: M2P, MPG
MPEG2 Transport Stream: TS, TP, TRP, M2T, M2TS, MTS
ISO, IFO
AVC HD
MOV(H.264), MP4, MOD, TOD,

and all the fallowing codecs

XVID SD/HD
MPEG 1
MPEG-2 (MP@HL)
MPEG-4.2 (ASP@L5, 720p, 1-point GMC)
WMV9 (MP@HL),
H.264 (BP@L3, MP@4.0, HP@4.0)
VC-1 (MP@HL, AP@L3)

plus the fact that it runs with the maximum resolution of 1920-1080p with HDMI 1.3 makes it a good peace of kit to use. Put it this way iv never had any problems with mine and im running H.264 files of about 11GB at times with no loss in picture quality or audio but have a look and see what you think!
