got a sony dvd recorder with 120gb hard drive that gives you 1080p upscaling with freeview model number rdr-hxd 790 it also says i can pause live tv but when i try to record to the hard drive or dvd the picture looks blurred or with shadows i;m using a 1080p hdmi lead but that doesn;t seem to work can anyone help me many thanks .

A DVD recorder , is an optical disc recorder that records video onto blank writeable DVD media. Such devices are available as either installable drives for computers or as standalone components for use in studios or home theater systems.
