Maybe a little more info on subject? I'm guessing you were trying to install graphics driver for ATI, am I right?

nope i just wanted to see the wobbly windows and the cube effects, so i enabled them, and when i pressed the enable button the screen went white. It acts like there is a background and everything still behind the white screen, all i see is the mouse and the white screen.

which linux distribution, desktop manager(gnome or kde), graphics card are you using? did you install binary driver package or used open source?

I am using linux fedora 10, and gnome is the desktop i believe, and i got a fx5500 video card. i haven't done anything with the drivers, I did it as soon as i installed linux. Is there a way to boot in a "safe mode" or make a new user account?

haven't used fedora in a long time. lets see... boot system then press
ctrl+alt+F1 then log in. type su root and then your root password. after that you will remove effects with

yum remove compiz

this is if you can live without the effects
you can try reinstalling them later. sorry about delay. I was away last week.
