I am doing this more as a learning/experiment than anything, but for a long while i've wanted to build a inexpensive computer using all freeware. I've heard linux very often mentioned, but it need be mentioned i'm not a software expert so i'm a little concerned it will be really difficult to use. Is there a version of linux thats fairly user friendly? similar to windows?

I hope to use open office, daz, blender and others in this computer. Using decent quality but inexpensive components ( a good but not blazing AMD chip will be the core
processor.)

I am also a little concerned as I'm planning on using a videocard for this and it would need to be compatible with linux.

Sorry if these are foolish/noob questions, but in regards to linux thats pretty much what I am.
