hi guys im still quite new to the mac os can anyone help me with this problem?

i want to take photos from my mac and put them onto an external flash drive to take them somewhere else or just keep them safe. but when i open finder, locate the folder i want, and then drag the photo(s) to the external flash/hard drive, it transfers and works fine. however while it is being transferred, the mac also creates a copy of the photo in the same folder it was dragged from in the first place. which i dont need as its already in that folder.

any ideas how to stop this? i transferred the photos onto a sandisk cruzer if that helps, as when moving a load of photos over it can be very annoying having to delete the additional copies created.

thanks.
