iMac DVD burner Hardware error

Hello, My 2.8GHz Intel based iMac is having problems burning DVDs from DVD Studio. I think it is a problem with the DVD burner itself. It started out by making very loud buzzing noises like it was having problems burning the disc. Now it wont burn the DVD at all and is giving me a message saying:

"The recording device reported the hardware error:
Unknown device error: (0x09, 0x01.)"

What does this mean, and is there a way I can fix it?
