hi, for the longest time i was able to copy dvds, without any issues.

i use these apps
1) ripit
2) mactherippe

and now for some strange reason i cannot copy any movies anymore.
the movie will copy, without any errors, but when i burn the movie to dvd and play it on my tv, the movie will skip and freeze all the time.
and it does the same thing when i play the movie on my mac, it freezes and skips.

any ideas?

thanks

Are you using the right media? DVD-R not DVD+R.
Try slowing the burn down to 4x or less. [if your burner will let you]

After ripping with MTR try viewing the DVD in the Apple DVD viewer. If it works by opening the VIDEO_TS file and watching it fine your good to burn. If not, blame the ripper.

Also clean your DVD player lens.

Hope this helps.

Do you always verify your burns? I'll just expand on 'djhotwhee''s answer.

Something has changed. Brands of blank DVDs often have several sources of discs, of greatly varying quality, and these change without notice. Check the bible on this:

My conclusion was to simply wait until Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media were on sale, then buy a good stock from a reliable local vendor or internet store. (There are about six.)

If your burns did verify, remember that DVD players last only a few years. You should post this on the forum:

If commercial, pressed DVDs are beginning to skip, you can chance cleaning your lens. Everyone has a method, usually centering around Q-tips & rubbing alcohol.

If commercial DVDs play fine, and you verified yours, run it on the free player VLC and check the error log as it plays.

If you don't verify your burns, remember to turn off all power savers, applications, screen savers, and even internet connections. Defragment your hard disk. If you're using a laptop, keep it cool with icepacks.

Be sure your buffer doesn't overflow by making it large and burning your DVDs at a slower speed.

I used to run my ripped VIDEO_TS 'file' through VLC and find many problems. Then I got into the habit of loading the file into AnyDVD? (the free DVD editor from France), which instantly corrected errors and saved a cleaner DVD image. In any case, playing your disc with VLC & checking the error log should tell you what's wrong.
