Ok, here is a question. I am thinking about buying a Mac laptop. I am worried about it getting stolen though!! If it were to get stolen, does the hardware have a unique ID, so that if someone were to try and use it after I reported it nicked to apple, would they know if the thief was getting updates etc from Mac? This might seem a daft question but I have no experience with Macs at all.
Thanks for any replies & advice....
a friend of mine got an mac a few months ago and there was a tracker on it
now im not sure who is tracking or what way it works once activated
now if it was stolen on you
there would be ways around getting updates if needed
also if they could disconect it if stolen, you would be still without your laptop
"unless the cops stumbled upon it"or it fell in there lap" (both very unlikely), even then you would probably still have to wait months if there was court proceedings ect..ect
the best option is insure it, i have my sons vaio insured ?15pm and so far its been replaced once due to him dropping it on floor :)
I read about a program a while ago that was used for the Iphone that was originally created by Michael Patryn, a computer software expert out of Calgary, Canada. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that it can be used on certain Mac's as well.
Basically if you have your Iphone(or potentially mac) stolen, you can track where its going. From my experience with the police, if you have specific information as to where the item is, they'll usually try to help.
