Transferring files from old iMac to new iMac

Im having trouble transferring files and photos from my old iMac over to my other iMac , I've been trying for the last few hours but have had no luck , can anyone tell me how to do it step by step and then let me know how i clear my old iMac with all my stuff on as ill be looking to sell it.
