For a couple weeks now, each time I boot up my HP Windows 7 laptop, there is the red "X" over the taskbar speaker icon. No idea what caused it. I not only need to click
on the icon to pop up the volume slider, but I also need to click on any level below or above wherever the slider happens to be resting upon reboot, before the X will clear.
Volume control and audio works fine, until the next reboot and sound is muted again.
Ideas?

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall your sound card driver?

NO, I have not tried that, tho' I've done it before with other problems. What I'd like to know is, will the driver be found in my Win 7 system? I have no discs. And as always
is the case, there are more than one listing for video, and audio. Never sure which to
deal with.
Guess I should create a restore point, then I'll be ok to go back, and try a different listed device. I have Conexant HD Smart Audio, and Nvidia HD Audio in the Sound devices.

HP G60-445DX Windows 7. Thought sure you were gonna say the drivers are on my drive. Isn't everything that came with the PC nowadays in backup? Unless you take special
measures to remove it all? ( I just wanted assurance in previous message :- )
