I need to reload my Windows 7 Ultimate as it has become corrupted and my Win 7 DVD that i used to "repair startup" is beyond repair so I need to burn a new copy and reload the OS and start over again. [why I hate Windows over UNIX]

1. I read that to make a bootable DVD for Windows 7 you must use the BOOT record from a Windows 7 OS DVD/CD? I have extracted the boot record from a XP Pro but it will not boot.

2. Saw where Windows 7 can be put on an USB pen/drive/memory chip. GREAT idea, load faster, etc. The biggest problems i have had goes back to the original Windows 32, Having to constantly reload but when you do, you have to build your entire Program Folder, etc over and over.

Question: IF you can boot the OS from a USB pen drive, can you LOAD your programs on the same pen drive? OR has someone found out if you can LOAD OS from a pen drive AND load your programs on to another Pen Drive so OS can be reload without rebuilding your Program Folders. I assume the REGISTRY is going on the pen drive with the OS?

Any help on getting around this Windows problem of getting corrupted and having to rebuild your PC every quarter would help.
