COM Surrogate problem

Hi I need help with a problem I have, a programme to convert mkv to mpeg was recently installed and then uninstalled on my PC and ever since then when I open a folder containing a video file I get an error message saying

COM Surrogate has stopped working

This is followed by another saying

Windows Explorer had stopped working, then it restarts

Then I get a message saying its a problem with FF mpeg

its driving my nuts, Im running Vista 32bit on a Dell Inspiron .531 PC

Can anyone help
