I've had so many problems with my computer recently, it all started when I starting using a 360 drive plugged into the comp so I could rip 360 games. I had windows 7 and everything started to mess up and not respond. I've been trying all day to boot new windows, I formatted my hard drive and everything got deleted, and finally managed to get Vista back. I thought everything was back to normal so installed firefox then tried installing new drivers for my motherboard and also run windows update, but again, everything started to not respond. I restarted the comp and now I can't even get back into windows - all I get is a black screen. I did get the option to run in safe mode or run at the last known good configuration but when I click to run one of them, nothing happens and I get a black screen still.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? Would it be a problem with the hard drive or the motherboard? Any help would be appreciated!

Try doing a chkdsk c: /f on the drive. If the drive is corrupted it will give you problems. If the drive was corrupted before you installed windows it will still be corrupted after windows is installed. This is what will cause problems during bootup.

To rule out a hardware problem you can try using a linux livecd to bootup your computer. This will put a OS into memory (not your hard drive) and will use all your hardware. If linux won't run on your computer you might have a hardware problem.
