Hello, I'm new here and hoping someone with better pc skills then myself can assist me please. I got some movie files from a newsgroup and all had different file formats. I used a converter for achieving different formats. I chose Avi because I want to play the disc in my home Dvd player which I've done this before with no issues. After I convert to Avi I use a program vso Copy to Dvd and chose the "Data feature" to get them all on the one disc. When I put the disc in my dvd home player I got an message saying codec not supported for each movie. If I use Convert X to dvd there is no problem, but this program can only do one movie per disc and takes a long time to complete.I want to make a Data disc if possible. I don't know how to correct this. Can you please assist me? Thank you in advance. P.S. Please explain in simple terms if you can as not that great on pc yet.

Assuming you have these avi files in a folder on the PC (or the disk) drag them one at a time into MediaInfo and find out which codec is being used.
For playback on a standalone player that is DivX certified, the codec should be either XviD or DivX.
Generally, the audio codec is AC3 or MP3.

The maximum resolution for the video is 720x576.

Hello, thank you so much first off for taking your time to assist me with this matter! I tried to save time thinking I could just copy the results that media info found but wasnt able to paste the results. Then I tried to put here a screenshot to show you but that too was unable to do. So I will now type the results for one movie. On media info window here is what shows: Container and general info:
1 video stream: AVC 1 Audio stream:MPEG Audio mp3
Writing application:I used freemake converter and selected the avi option then hit convert

I was able to download the first one the AVC one from clicking on the button on the media info window. However not sure what to click on for the audio one because when I click that button I just see the overall web page with no download button for me to click. Confused how to get that one. Can you plz help by providing me a link for this 2nd one needed? Also please tell me how downloading these will help me to get the movie to play?LOL... Do I just repeat the steps like I first did by dragging the movie file first into the freemake converter and clicking on the avi button to convert, then when done, opening up Copy to Dvd program and selecting the file I just converted with the freemake program? If so then will the movie disc play in my home dvd player? Again I very much appreciate your expertise in helping me so much :)

If you want AVI files compatible with a standalone player, try this setting.
