I'm using Vista x64.

I'm trying to add a program to run on start up. I'm trying to locate the start up folder, but can't find it. I know I can also add a program through the Registry, but I'd prefer not to do that if at all possible. I have looked in the following places for the folder, with no luck:

C:\Users -> Your_Name -> app data -> roaming -> microsoft -> windows -> start menu, programs, startup

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I have tried changing the settings to view hidden files and folders but I am certain it isn't there. I've also tried doing a search.

Any ideas?

How old is your install? And have you ever made modification or just changed some settings?

Could try adding the folders yourself. Not sure that will work if it wasn't there to begin with.

Vista came already installed on my laptop. I bought it new around six months ago. I have changed what runs on start up vis msconfig, but that's it. I have no idea whether creating the folder would work, but I assume not? Any suggestions?

Well just make sure that you do having viewing hidden folder enabled. Some stuff I read says you can create the folder. But if none of that works then follow the steps atthis site.

I'm certain I can see normally hidden folders. I'd rather not mess with the registry like that link suggests so I'll wait to see if anyone else responds with other ideas. If not, I'll give it a go.

Seeing hidden folders isn't a feature that is turned on by default. And it can be turned of from places other than registry.

"Seeing your hidden files and system files in Vista is not much different than in XP. Here are the step-by-step directions. Remember that system files are hidden for a reason. Don?t go messin? around with stuff.

1. Click the round blue Start thing in the left corner
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Folder Options
4. Click the View tab
5. Click Show hidden files and folders
6. If you want to see system files as well, unclick Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
7. Click OK"
