Hey guys,
My laptop (gateway nv59c) recently started experiencing a major problem. Upon booting it up, The log in screen takes an abnormally long one to load, followed by a blank screen for about a minute. When everything finally loads, I lose Internet (displays that there are no connections available), windows firewall is disabled and won't re enable, and windows update loses functionality. On top of it I get a message that windows cannot connect to the system event notification service. Can someone please guide me through how to fix this? ANY help is appreciated. Google has been fruitless.

Thanks for the quick reply, DDP. When I boot in safe mode I no longer get the black screen, but still am not showing any available connections.

goto all programs, accessories, system tools then system restore. don't create restore point but go to an earlier date. select the dark numbers not the light numbers. computer will eventually restart & tell you if restore was successful. is not supposed to harm data but might cause program(s) to not work if installed between that date & now.

Ended up having to do a destructive restore. Dunno if it's just windows being windows or a great piece of malware but I restored and it seems to. E resolved. Thanks for the help!
