I have just purchased W7. Do I need to remove my old operating system or will the new disc do it for me?
Are there any other things you can tell me about changing systems?

save your data as in my documents & whatever for just in case. might give you the option to do an upgrade. does your pc meet the win7 system requirements?

You can run a windows 7 compatibility tool from the MS website to see if you machine meets the minimum requirements. Here is the link.
