Hi There

I am having a nightmare my bf has locked himself out of his laptop which is windows 7. I have a macbook so i'm trying my best to help him. We have googled everything as he hasn't got the disks and we don't ever get an option to use the administrator user. Can anyone please help us out.

Thank You

Emma

A very likely story i'm sure i suspect you suspect somthn's going on & you want to find out what that is but he's locked "YOU" out, however since i like causing mischief

hirens bootcd
has ability to reset password to none, fairly straight forward to do

Haha no he's not up to something! So with that software can I download it on my MacBook and then copy to disc and then put it on his laptop?

Yeah I am only given the option of his account no administrator account, I've tried F8 and stuff but they all want a password can't work out how to get to the admin account!

All we wanna do is restore it as we are giving it to my little cousin cos we don't use it anymore!

Thank you

Yes it's an iso you can burn to cd or pretty sure there's a version to put onto thumb drive as well

if it won't boot from cd or usb drive then change boot order in the BIOS tap key F1 or F2 depending on you cpu

there's also another similar software
http://www.ubcd4win.com/

would pay to look at hirens site or web search how to reset windows password using hirens bootcd,it's been a while there was a picture of what you should see & the order of user accounts in the list if there's more than one that was shown on a site who had a tutorial, best method is not to reset when asked or given choice select "none" so reboot goes straight into windows,i've used & still have it here,it also has a bootable copy of xp on it

once your back into windows check computer management then select disk manager, ignoring the very left column & looking at the bottom half of the main window do you see an arrangement that shows more than 1 partition Called C

as an example only look at the 1st picture in this link & the colour'd part in the bottom half http://www.disk-partition.com/windows-8...-windows-8.html

disk 1 in green (yours should show disk 0 if only 1 hard drive is there)
E partition is vista or win or win 8 boot partition,if you have xp this will not be here

partition C is windows

however if you have say a 3-15gb partition lets say D after partition C (like in picture that has a 40gb D partition)& nobody created it but it was there when bought then this will likely be the recovery partition,if you have xp D partition can be in front of C or after it & won't be more than 5gb normally

recovery partition is used to restore to factory specs however before it is used you must create a backup image of the recovery & C partition, regardless an image should be created of windows C drive this will then become your restore disk so to speak, two will need to be created using the free for personal use software easeus todo backup

Thank you
In this case, you do a factory reboot using the recovery partition. Should be like an F11 or something upon powering on.

Me79, do as what GryphB suggests because if you had told us that earlier, we would have told you to use the recovery partition to do a fresh install of windows.

F10 or F11 but not before images are created like i said in last paragraph of last post or they risk ending up with a paper weight of a computer

if all you are doing is putting windows back to default setting than it isn't. if in doubt, ask.

This recovery process helps you restore the C: drive with the original software
content that is installed when you purchase your notebook. Follow the steps
below to rebuild your C: drive. (Your C: drive will be reformatted and all data
will be erased.) It is important to back up all data files before using this option.
Before performing a restore operation, please check the BIOS settings.
1 Check to see if Acer disk-to-disk recovery is enabled or not.
2 Make sure the D2D Recovery setting in Main is Enabled.
3 Exit the BIOS utility and save changes. The system will reboot.
Note: To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during POST.
To start the recovery process:
1 Restart the system.
2 While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to
enter the recovery process.
3 Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
Important! This feature occupies 15 GB in a hidden partition on
your hard disk

acer netbooks use the same method of reloading windows as i've done it once or twice for customer. don't worry about the data than if restoring to factory defaults.

Also when I was trying to do this before heading over to this forum I set a supervisor password which I know but I have to enter it every time the laptop comes on which is so annoying I'm on the screen to change it but it won't highlight it so I can remove it! Sorry!
