Hi All,

In my office at work we have 4 computers running Windows XP, 3 of which are running XP Professional version and 1 of which is mine running XP Home version.

The problem I keep having is that there is a HPL7400 printer which is connected to one of the XP Professional version computers and all the other computers use that printer via the network and I am the only one in the office who cannot print because every time I have to restart the computer that is connected to the printer via the USB cable and when it starts up I can print for about half an hour then it loses the network connection and won't print again from my computer until I restart the computer connected to the printer again.

I have tried creating a new local port with the correct path which worked for a while but then stopped working, All other computers running XP Professional version never have this problem but weirdly enough, I can always connect to shared printer (old ones still in the shared printer folder) on other XP Professional computers in the same office on the same network.

I am thinking to move the printer to another computer next to the one it's connected to now so that I can print all the time but I was wondering if anyone has a solution for this as it's really starting to irritate me now.

Oh, and the printer is shared.

Thanks in advance.

Marcus.

On print server--in printer properties
1. Make sure the sharing is set to EVERYONE. Make sure the word everyone is in the list of people to share with. Add it if it isnt
2. Make sure in the security tab (in the printer properties) has group or username EVERYONE add it if it isnt, and set your permissions to allow
On your remote machine
3. It is a good idea to make sure it works directly plugged in before trying to do it remotely. But If you are absolutely sure you have the proper driver installed, use the add printer wizard to add a network printer.
