Hey, I'm trying to boot Vista into safe mode. My old keyboard died on me and I went out to get a new one, but for some reason this keyboard doesn't get any "power" until I reach the login screen. Is there any other way to get into safe mode without the need to restart and hit F8?

You have to make a change in the boot.ini options.

Type msconfig in the search box and then select the msconfig in the programs list. You will have to supply the Admin name and password to continue.

Select the tab that says, "Boot" and you should see several selection boxes for the way you would like Windows to boot. Select the one that says, "SafeBoot" or something to that extent. Then select Apply Changes then click Okay to exit.

You will be told to reboot. When you reboot your computer will boot into safe mode for you. You will need to follow the same steps to turn off SafeBoot before you reboot your machine again.

also if u have a ps2 (old style plug usually purple and round) keyboard around plug it in and go into the bios of the system and enable USB Legacy mode, this will allow the usb keyboard to work during bootup, once thats done plug in ur usb keyboard and ull always be able to use the usb one during bootup
