I tried to upgrade from windows 98 i boot from the cdrom and delete the windows 98 partition and create a new one but when its time to format the new partition it give a error message stop: 0X0000008E setupdd.sys-address fca96132 base at datastamp and a different one when i try it again and again, am stuck because i cant boot from hard disk i delete the version of windows 98 that was on it, so can anyone help me PLEASE!!!

Without even looking my first guess would be bad RAM. This Microsoft article confirms it:

Yes, sir... either bad RAM or incompatible RAM configuration for XP.
