if i installed xp or vista and then used an upgrade edition to windows 7 then would i get all the aspects of the os as in the full edition and a fresh install?
also, if i used an OEM edition of xp or vista then when i upgraded would i get the customer support from MS, which i wouldn't get if i installed an OEM of windows 7?

thnx

ps. btw you probably guessed, im a cheapskate looking for a cheap windows 7 solution.

Wmccusker,

If you used an upgrade edition of Windows 7 to migrate from Window XP or Windows Vista you would still have all the same functionality as you would with a Fully Windows 7 License -- you are not limited with an upgrade edition.

If you purchase an OEM version of Windows XP or Windows Vista you will still have customer support through Microsoft once you migrated to Windows 7 as you purchased a retail (upgrade or full) copy of it.

Also, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum specifically for consumers located here http://bit.ly/2lHGlg. It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You are welcome to check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

If you are a student (or know anyone that is), take a look here (UK) or here (US).

I got win 7 home premium for £30,

You can buy an update disk, and perform a full clean install from the disk (ie. WITHOUT having Windows previously installed). It takes a little extra work but is really simple to do. Let me know if you want to know how...not going to bother typing it out yet incase you dont reply :).

Edit...spellcheck.

First of all, boot from your UPDATE disk, and choose "custom install". Go through all the normal prompts etc, and when it asks you for your product key DO NOT ENTER ANYTHING, just click next. Win7 will then be installed on the machine, and you will have 30 days to "try it out".

Once all installed and configured etc, just pop your update disk back into the drive (while the computer is up and running), and let it do its thing. this time, enter your key when prompted, and away you go.

You should then have a nice clean Windows 7 install from your update disk. Give me a shout if you need any more info/help with that.
