volume gradually decreases to zero

hi

I?ve also posted a similar post in the virus but thought i would try my luck here as well.

The volume on my pc gradually goes down to zero. if i put it back up to the top its goes down again. i've run avg free virus scan and updated the drivers for the sound card (i'm running creative SB X-FI)

has anyone had the same problem or has anyone got an idea of how to fix this?

I have never came across this problem but maybe test your speakers on another system, or try another set. Can you get hold of another sound card just to eliminate the existing one?

just tried to deleted the drivers and then reinstalled. still having the same problem. how do i eliminate the sound card?

Assuming this is a desktop and not a laptop.

To eliminate the sound card (assuming it is PCI) you need to either remove it and try it in another computer to see if you get the same problem or not, or see if you can get hold of any other sound card and swap it over to see if replacement works ok (can you borrow one of another comp).

To eliminate the speakers, plug them in to another comp to see if they work fine or not, or try another set on problem comp. if it is a laptop plug some speakers into the audio port.
