Time to reinstall my os. I built a monster but put xp32bit on for convenience. I know xp pretty good but am wondering if i should shell out for 7. I have to go to a 64 bit os to utilize all my RAM (8 gigs OCZ Gold) but which one? Also running a single nvidia gtx470 vid card. Nothing is overclocked....Yet.

Thanks for your opinion

You may need to update drivers and some or all of your programs so you need to run the upgrade advisor first. You will know what you need to update then. I would go for Windows 7 64-bit thats what i got it works very well fast, smooth and reliable.

Link below for upgrade advisor:

Support for windows xp ends on april 8th 2014.

I am putting together an AM3 socket DDR3 computer using latest ASUS MB with
AMD Phenom II 810 X4 CPU.

Should I install Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate or XP 64-bit on my computer so
that I have less of a headache in terms of driver compatbility, applications,
etc...

Please advise.

Thanks!

Personally i would go for 64-bit windows 7 much better than xp 64-bit and support well beyond 2014 whereas xp support ends.

I assume you are building a system so your processor is 64-bit so no problem.

Your asus you say is the latest so should be 64-bit ready and have all the drivers for win 7 64-bit but you need to confirm this on asus website for your model and model no.

Check all your hardware is win 7 compatable by going onto their websites also check all the software you are wishing to install is also 64-bit certified.

The mcirosoft compatability site will give some help with determing with your hardware, software and peripherals are 64-bit compatable, make you hit 64-bit windows option. Whatever isn't in there check manufacturers websites.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

If you have a 32-bit windows os installed already backup all important data including program setup files if compatable with win 7 64-bit. You will then have to install win7 64-bit using custom install as you cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit.

Travalon you will have to custom install as well.

Hope this helps.
