I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop. I get it installed & it loads the first time to take updates. After it takes all the updates & installs drivers, it will reboot, but will not start Windows. It just comes up to a black screen & just hangs there indefinitely. When I restart it again, I can get it into Safe Mode, but NEVER into Windows 7. I set a restore point as soon as it loads, so I can get back into Windows before it updates, but as soon as it starts, it takes updates again. There has got to be something that updates that is locking the system, but I don't know how to figure it out or how to stop it from updating. If I could get it to a point to manually updates each driver 1 by 1, I could restart it after each to find out why it's crashing, although that would be a VERY long process. Please Help!!!!
System:
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
M2A-VMHDMI MOBO
8GB RAM AMD Athlon x64 4200+ processor
Using onboard sound & video
500GB WD internal HD I have NOT updated or flashed the BIOS, not sure if that's anything I need to be concerned about
Ended up being the MOBO was configured for 2 displays, making my monitor the #2 display. The HDMI disabled itself somehow during the installation. When I had it hooked up before running XP, the monitor was the #1 display, and my TV was the #2 display - set up as an extention of the desktop. Apparently in safe mode, it combines both monitor displays, but when in windows it doesn't. Took me a while, but I figured it out. Now the problem I have is it won't let me change my monitor BACK to the #1 display. Any guesses?
