ok so i finally got it to boot into safe mode and safe mode with networking. i am currently on the laptop in safe mode. however it still hangs after normal windows welcome logo.
i turned off legacy usb in the bios. disabled it.
i also rana chkdsk. stages 1 and 2 found nothing. stage three looked like this.

cleaining up 496 unused index entries from $sii of file 9
cleaning up 496 unsude index entries fromm $sdh of file 9
cleaning up 496 unused security descriptors
reparing usn journal $j data stream.
stage 4 was running at 50% when i left for the store. 1.5 hours later i came back and it was on the windows welcome screen.
also yes i have a laptop with a SATA drive. I hve three laptops in total.

not sure if this will fix it or not. but i enabled hidden devices in device manager. i delete all the faded usb ports and a security processor something or rather had a yellow triangle and it wasn't faded. i uninstalled it.
Im thinking of a few things here. let's run them through our thoughts.
1) when i start normal windows and it hangs up right after the welcome logo on the blue screen. i can still use ctrl alt delete. maybe there is a service that isnt started that should be preventing it from booting all the way up into windows.
2) I have been in safe mode with networking all day since my last post said i got in.it finally froze up while i was about to post on afterdawn. I touched where the fans were and it was hot. not so hot i can't touch it but warm. i also touched the heat sink and it was really hot. but those are as they should be correct? no where else is it even remotely hot or warm. But still i gotta ask is it worth me repasting the gpu and cpu?
i rebooted it right back up into safe mode and it froze a little while into it again. this time not even the fans were warm.
3) I am almost convinced my hard drive isn't faulty but i still have 5% doubt. here is the sounds it makes in windows safe mode. it sounds like the normal da da da da da and then chirp chirp chirp chirp and repeats. nothing high pitched nothing out of what i would consider the ordinary. Is it worth me doing a full re install of windows 7? i have already back up my drive. I have ran parted magic disk tool. chkdsk three times or so and i can use seatools but none of them have found anything. can my second hard drive cause the Os hard drive to freeze? i only have games and movies on the second one.
4) i have checked and rechecked all of my drivers. they are up to date. still a fresh reinstall would erase anything a spyware or anitvirus has put onthere but i had to clone my drive becuase i couldnt access it to back it up. so that would negate that option.
5) When my computer froze in safe mode both times i didnt hear or see the hard drive make any sound or light come on. i heard a feint hard drive sound but im assuming that is my second hard drive if that one even works in safe mode.
Let me know what you think. im out of options so far and i really want to get this fixed. id like to do it the cheap and fast way but if i have to ill buy a new hard drive. call up windows and do a install by telephone since the cd i have is just a retail install cd with no key and i have my oem key obviously.
Ok so before i headed off to bed. i figured i would give it one more try. i booted up the laptop and went into safe mode. i watched the hard drive led light this time and listened. the light was flickering like normally then it went steady. i thought to myself at that moment thats wierd the hard drive is still audibly running. then like the hard drive turned itself off i heard click the light stayed steady and i tried to move the mouse. frozen again. scroll lock didnt work either. So......... hard drive?
well i renistalled windows 7 yesterday and it logged into normal windows fine. couldn't use my usb prts at all so i went into bios to make sure it was enabled. try restarting windows and got a BSOD everytime the windows logo came up way before it went to the log in screen. got fed up and bought a new 320 gb WD hard drive. so far so good. will post anything different. thanks for trying.
