Hi , No doubt you have noticed if youve manually checked for updates , my pc is set to inform and let me decide what patches are installed, microsofts latest is similar to windows genuine advantage offering in xp, like wga its predecessor it checks your pc isnt running a pirated copy of windows.in windows 7 and is called WAT....CUTE EH?
In a nutshell it will then nag you to death should it find somthing that it doesnt like in addition to checking as did wga and updating itself to circumvent piracy.
Now before all the ms luvvies slate me i shall put my concerns, I have recently bought three hp pcs two were running vista premium -pre-installed by hewlett packard and activated therfore 100 per cent genuine bone fide windows, i also bought a dv6 pavillion laptop running windows 7 premium also pre installed and activated therefore genuine.
I updated both vista pcs to window 7 using an hp update pack and also a full retail windows 7 premium pack , i then decided to update the main desktop to windows 7 ultimate using anytime upgraded cost me over £100 quid.
so Ive now got all 3 running and happily working, I read before i install , yes this patch is optional but , it really makes me angry my pcs obviously are genuine , i dont like the idea of microsoft poking around my pcs they are already activated , I can see this tool causing all manner of probs if it doesnt like the changes and legit keys ive added to my desktop and im loathe to get on the i have to fix something thta wasnt broken roundabout that usually follows this type of upgrade, if it will go pear shaped it usually happens to me, so im switching off my windows update in msconfig that way good old microsoft cant install bugger all unless i say so , ie via the backdoor, it annoys me we had this with xp (wga) vista fiasco now they want to ruin windows 7, oh it only disables this and that doesnt affect much i hear people bleat , its OPTIONAL! may be now but you can bet it wont be for long , perhaps i should revert to xp that way my set up wont run any risks of breakage and hours on the phone like what has happened in the past when they for example broke auto updates on xp, what do you think of this latest patch is it invasive , will you install it and if you have had any probs , i ask before I decide what actions to take
