Hi guys - Merry Xmas to all .

Im having a problem with Windows updates my pc. Im not sure if its some sort of virus , or just a Windows issue.

I keep getting the yellow icon, saying 'updates are ready for your computer'. When I click it goes through the 4 update steps, and says 'updates succesfully applied'.
However, the icon keeps coming straight back, even after cold boot.
When I go through the control panel / add & remove, the last updates are still showing as over a week ago. However, if I go into the site for Windows update , it shows the update for today as 'succesfull'.
I ran a manual update via the Microsoft website and this worked sucesfully. (i.e it updated the add/remove programs page).

Thanks in advance for any help

My pc keeps randomly going to 100% cpu usage , and its usually svchost or msiexec which is causing it. When applying the updates my pc shows as running out of disk space, even though I have deleted file over a gig a byte recently.

I have ran virus checks using avast , spybot and adaware. Couple were found, but the issue persists.
I am on Windows XP 2002 SP3 . Add/remove progs shows latest update as KB2467659.
