cant seen to figure this one out . i try to install windows 7 and or windows xp and windows dont see a hdd to install to. the hard drive does show up in the bios also. i have tried two different hdd a 40 gb and a 200 gb and windows install does not see the hdds both hdds are old style ide. tried a different cable and no luck removed battery from board no luck. windows was on one of the hdds before and would see the hdd and install .do i have a bad mobo ? this mobo has been used very rarely i dont know where to go from here not sure when the board was built

moved to correct forum. what is the boot sequence in the bios? what is the make & model# of the motherboard or computer?

boot sequence

1st boot > cdrom
2nd boot hdd
3rd boot removable
4th boot hdd

okies.. I see where the problem might be.. this is a board with ide and sata ports. so you will need to make sure the bios is set to actually run the onboard bios ide device driver rather than the sata. XP don't have sata drivers, and that's the most likely cause.. the hardware is telling windoze the drives are sata in ide mode or something so it's addressing the wrong location..

delve into the bios hdd or integrated peripherals settings and there will probably be something like the ahci mode for drives or similar.

ok switched to ahci mode and windows 7 dont see the hdd still :(

being the motherboard sees the drive then it is a setting issue. clear the cmos so it goes back to factory defaults. what are the drives jumpered as as in master, slave or cable select?

clear the cmos ? take battery out ?

and in bios drive shows up as slave

but windows should still see it

read your motherboard manual or computer guide on how to clear the cmos. if the hd is slave the what is master?

hdd is set to master jumper. and hooked into master ide plug

i changed it to master

i think both the 40 and the 200 gb (ide)are junk

yep. i have one in this pc atm and the 40 gb ..checkdiskran on start up
and i cant even view it under my computer. it shows up as drive :D but cant view it. i think its good for a paper weight now !!!!!!!!

will check the other one later the 200gb
btw ddp cleared the cmos then updated the bios to the newest verison through the bios with usb :)
