Hi
wont go in to the whole story but I had the Win32/virut virus on my desktop. Its taken me a week to get into my files but PC is to far gone. I need a report on my Hijackthis log on this laptop so I can backup my data etc, as I may have infected this pc as well (The virus had got onto a Memmory stick I was using to move files around

There are a few services I'm not sure about. Lets do this download and install SUPER Antispyware and Spybot Search and Destroy. I personally only use Malwarebytes and SUPER myself but since your dealing with a infection might as well get/install Spybot as well.
So download both SUPER and Spybot, install, update, and scan with them. Reboot and then post a new HijackThis log.

Well those 3 entries from before are still there. I would write the entries down on paper, boot into Safe Mode and then run HJT and remove them from within Safe Mode. Do that and then reboot back into Windows (normal mode) and post a new HJT log.

hi
Hijack scan done in safe mode,
fixed the 3 entries, rebooted and ran again
but entries seem to be getting picked up on reboot
I have not posted log as they are still present
???

Alright well the 1 entry, lsass.exe, is a system file. But a trojan can overtake it or overwrite it. Since no scans detected it and a Safe Mode removal didn't remove it I will assume it is safe and that Windows is simply reloading it everytime. The spoolsv entry is related to printing but the way its entry was presented didn't seem right so I put that one up for removal as well since virus/trojans can overtake/hide in the process as well. But again since it keeps repairing even after a attempt at Safe Mode removal I would have to say it is clean.
All things considered your system should be perfectly clean now.

hi
thanks for help. the LSASS was the one I was concerned with as i know The "L" in this type of virus can be disasguised as an uppercase "i"
I did check it out in word pad by altering the fonts but I needed a secound opinion.
I do fix a lot of other peoples PCs but when its my own family photos that are at risk its some how a bit different.

Yeah I right with you on that fact. I repair PC's part time and I'll do my best to save as much as I can but if I'm having I hard time I won't hesitate to recommend a reinstall to the customer. With my families PC's I'll go to any measure to save and protect that data because it isn't just their memories in those photos its mine too.
