What would be your recommendation to remove all Norton products from a new Toshiba C50- A Series- Windows 8.

I would personally recommend uninstalling Norton.
I would turn off Windows Defender - it has MSE incorporated with it in Win 8.
For the best protection, I would then install Avast 8 Free if you like playing with settings or Bitdefender Free if you want the best protection without having to mess with it. IMHO :)

I know that ddp but with Win 8 MSE comes in Defender. Not there in Vista or 7.... It has been intergrated with defender so you have both AV and AntiMalware in one. Hello..

See -> HERE!

I am going to do more research on this.. Kafka is using Avast on win 8 with Defender turned off but I see there has been some conflicts with some around the web so will need to dig a little deeper, I guess.

@killer2,

As far as Windows Defender goes, you either manually disable it first or it automatically disables itself when a third-party antivirus program begins to install. Much different sort of program from the predecessor, Microsoft Security Essentials.

Not possible to uninstall it in Windows 8 as it was not designed to ever be uninstalled, only disabled. Rationale for this is simple: Every copy of Windows 8 that goes out the door this way with an a/v already installed, and active, on it so as to protect the system and the operating system. So, it is more or less built into the operating system, unlike third-party a/v's.

My opinion stands, Avast! Free is the better AV. Just uninstall Norton and install Avast.

Ever since Avast 8 came out this year I have ran it through the wringer and it has always came out on top of everything I've tested it against.. I gather about 50 or so ZeroDay malware each week that I test against and Avast runs in the neighborhood of 98% to 99% effective. I thought at first that Bitdefender Free was going to be a keeper but it has let me down several times even tho it has a higher rating, in the tests from AV Comparatives, than Avast.

When combined with K9 web protection and WOT or MalwareBytes Pro you can get 100% and I'm happier than a camel on Wednesday. :)

You can install Avast as a primary or secondary system. I have done so for a few years without any issues.
