HI,I am not sure if this a virus or malware problem, but my PC crashes and i have no idea
why but here is has happened to it in the last few weeks.
I had a video card capacitor split open pulled it out and now i am using on board video card which is not the best compared to what i took out.
My PC is a DELL E521,WINXP,sp3,2GBram,i took out a Nvidia GS 7300.
What shows is a item called (keystone.exe.6.14.10.11049).
I have checked into this keystone.exe thing and there are programs to down load but i am leery about using any one of them until i have a better idea as to what i am down loading
so any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated, also i get back ground sound after my desk
top comes up but nothing on the screen, sorry about long post, thanks

that file is part of the nvidia control panel.did you find the drivers for the card alright? this sounds like its hardware related to me.if you have onboard video take the card out and use it to see if it still crashes.

HI,I had pulled the Nvidia gs7300 which had the split capacitor on it,ran the reset program, all of malware, virus programs i have, but i have feeling the problems i am are connected to the bad video card.
TIGERDIRECT has a card that would work but to buy it you have pay full price then when the
supplier gets around to it you get gift card below is the card that was suggested.
(GALAXY61TGS4HX2LTX GeFORCE GT610GC),But i think a better way to go is buy a baseball bat
and give PC a little remedial training, thanks

HI,2oldGeek,That is where i am right now as the age of this PC compared what a newer PC
that is bigger and faster its just annoying that for not much more then it would take to
speed up this PC and if i get really lucky and put a newer card in then it goes bad because of some underlying problem,i think i will just bide my time and a newer PC,THANKS

Yeah, with a DELL E521 you probably have 6yrs in it and still running XP.
About time to move up. I would guess.
Take your time and choose one you can enjoy..
Have a Happy!

HI,JST1946,I ran the tweaky.com program and one of the error codes that came up was (1060)(0x24)error_service_does_not_exist.
Went to M/S site that listed all of the error codes, but not much help i guess if you are
not a computer expert.
Is this something can fixed or needs to be fixed any thoughts, thanks

That error just means that Tweaking.com cannot find the service that it's trying to reset to default..
I don't know if your XP has the cab file installed with the services or not but you might try to to repair the missing/bad service by running sfc /scannow.
go to start > run > type sfc /scannow in the run box and enter. it will scan your system files and make repairs if the cab file is installed. if it's not installed, it will ask you to insert your XP disk..

HI,2oldGeek,I did as you suggested and no go,do not have disk.
I thought i had read somewhere if you ran XP disk that it would wipe some of what is on
the HDD or is there an list of options that allow you to use just what you need.
This PC was given to me also.

You don't run the disk... When you run sfc /scannow it will ask you to insert the disk and then it will get what it needs off of it. That is, if it can't find it on the computer. Did you run sfc /scannow and did it ask for a disk? Run it, the files may be on the computer or maybe you know someone that can loan you an XP disk......

HI,I ran the CHKDSK and when i got to the end of it,it was gone before i had a chance to read all of is there any harm running again to catch what if anything was found on it.
I got a XP PROFESSIONAL INSTALL DISK should it come up on the screen right away, you know there are some days it is hard to get two brain cells to play well together.
My PC has not crashed lately, but it is just annoying that when you may see something that
may be wrong but does not really effect the running of the PC.(i.e. error code 1060)

I have been working with computers for over 50 years and it happens to all of us. LMAO
Go to Start > Run > enter " sfc /scannow " without the quotes in the box and click OK.
it will run and if it can't find a file it will ask you to insert the disk. At that point it will either find and install it or maybe tell you that the disk is not the correct system version or whatever... Don't hurt to try.. Any old port in a storm, I always say.
You would not have gotten anything out of the end of CHKDSK anyway it has done it's thing and if it helped, that's great.
Do the sfc /scannow thingy and let me know.

If you would have used step 3 of Tweaking.com it does the SFC/Scannow also.
