Hi i have just bought a second hand pc off a family friend for my children to use for school upon putting my security suite on i find it is running very sluggish i have tried running virus checks but both mcaffe and anti malware find nothing. I have not got the discs to do a reboot and set it back to factory setting do not know what else to do anyone please help. Thanks in advance.

First get firefox 3.5 and use that as your default browser.
Defrag your hard drive (mydefrag is a good free defragger).
Is this computer using the motherboard video card (onboard graphics) or does it have a PCIe or agp grapics card?
If it has the onboard video, that might be your problem. You can try to disable the AERO features to get better performance.

The all-in-security suites are very bloated. These software will definitely slowdown your computer since it has to analyze all data that is written to the hard drive.

You might want to use the free macrium reflect to make an "image" backup or your harddrive. that way you can always reload windows if anything occurs while doing repairs.

Most computer slowdown isn't virus related, more of a hardware/software type of problem. Vista especially is known to run real slow on single cpu/onboard video type of systems.

There are three major items that can cause this: Not enough real memory, a fragmented hard drive and too many programs loading stubs into memory at startup.

It is suggested that you close some useless applications to speed up your computer.
