starting Windows seems to re-create virus

I pulled the hard drive out of my Windows 7 desktop and plugged it into a gadget that lets you use it as any ordinary external drive. I plugged that into my Mac and ran Symantec which deleted a virus (sorry, don't know which one). Then I started the Windows XP running in Parallels that is installed on my Mac. Using XP I ran Malwarebytes on the external drive containing my Windows 7. That took around 25 hours. That deleted 37 things, mostly Registry Keys, none that actually said "virus." Then a quick scan using both Windows XP Malwarebytes and Mac Symantec showed no problems so I plugged the drive back into the desktop and started it up and it immediately has virus-like problems. So I've pulled it out again and am starting over.
It seems that starting Windows 7 also re-created a virus. Any help is appreciated.

First, what is the purpose of this?
Are you trying to run Win 7 on a Mac or just use the drive?

no as i've never seen malwarebytes take that long to scan a hard drive unless the capacity is in the terrabytes range or because of the usb speed.

I want Windows 7 to run on the desktop as it used to. I think the drive is 700 gigs; 500 gigs used/200 free

After scanning a PC installed Win 7 with a Symantec written for a Mac, I just don't know what it could have done..
We can give it a whirl..
You said it has virus like problems.. Can you get it to boot into windows on the desktop?
Tell me what it's doing and how it's acting...

Obviously you only cut off one head, the rest of the beast was left to regrow that head. Sometimes the Lazarus part of the maleware is hiding in some clever spot. I am just the peanut gallery. I have used a product from Oldtimer that cleaned out all those nooks and crannies when I had malware that could come back from the dead.

When I put it back into the desktop box and turn it on as a Windows 7 machine it runs.....really......SLOW. Opening one folder can take several minutes.

OK, let's see what we can find.
Please run these 2 programs so I can maybe see what the problem is.
These will not fix anything they will just scan and give me logs to go over and hopefully find the problem.
-Security Check-
Download Security Check by screen317.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
--OTL--
Please download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.
If you already have a copy of OTL, delete it and use this version.
Double click OTL.exe to launch the program.
Check the following.
Scan all users.
Standard Output.
Lop check.
Purity check.
Under Extra Registry section, select Use SafeList
Click the Run Scan button and wait for the scan to finish (usually about 10-15 mins).
When finished it will produce two logs.
OTL.txt (open on your desktop).
Extras.txt (minimized in your taskbar)
Please post me both logs

After he ran Symantec for a Mac over it? If he'll put it back, I may help him straighten it out... just maybe. :)

I am trying to make my desktop Windows 7 PC run normally. I'll run the tests you said tonight when I get home. I have taken out the hard drive and put it into a USB enclosure so that I can hook it up to my Mac and run virus cleaning software. My Mac has Windows running in Parallels, and I've run virus cleaning software from both operating systems on the drive.

Why in sam hell are you wanting to run cleaners from a MAC.
That's shade tree mechanic junk when you don't know what your doing.
PC's and Mac's are both computers but that's the only common ground they occupy.
Just reinstall your PC drive and I'll help you clean it from there.

Just TURN OFF your "system restore"
If you don't then Windows will retain the virus in the restore partition of your drive.
Turn off System Restore and then scan/remove/restart THEN turn Restore back on.

don't turn off your system restore as you won't be able to go back if you do, your anti-virus will scan & remove any infected restore points.
